What cookies are
A cookie is a small text file a website stores in your browser so it can remember something between pages or visits, such as a setting you chose or whether you have been here before. Some are essential for a site to work; others are used to measure how the site is used. Similar technologies, such as local storage and tracking pixels, are covered by this policy too.
The categories we use
- Strictly necessary. Needed for the site to work and to remember your cookie choice. These do not need consent and cannot be switched off in the banner.
- Analytics. Google Analytics 4 and Microsoft Clarity, which tell us which pages are visited, how people move through the site and where forms are abandoned. Clarity may record anonymised sessions. These are set only after you accept them in the banner.
- Marketing. None at present. If we ever add advertising cookies we will update this page and ask for your consent first.
The cookies, one by one
Name, purpose and how long it lasts:
- pefwil_consent (strictly necessary): records whether you accepted or declined analytics cookies, so we do not ask on every visit. Lasts 12 months.
- _ga (analytics, Google Analytics): distinguishes one visitor from another. Lasts up to 2 years.
- _ga_* (analytics, Google Analytics): keeps the session state for this site’s analytics property. Lasts up to 2 years.
- _clck (analytics, Microsoft Clarity): stores a visitor identifier and settings. Lasts up to 1 year.
- _clsk (analytics, Microsoft Clarity): links page views within one session into a single recording. Lasts 1 day.
The consent banner and changing your choice
On your first visit a banner asks whether you accept analytics cookies. Nothing in the analytics category is set until you click accept. If you decline, the site works exactly the same; we just cannot see the visit in our analytics.
You can change your choice at any time. Click Cookie settings in the footer of any page to reopen the banner, or clear this site’s cookies in your browser and the banner will appear again on your next visit. Withdrawing consent stops new analytics cookies being set; you can delete the existing ones in your browser.
Controlling cookies in your browser
Every modern browser lets you see, block and delete cookies, either for all sites or for individual ones. Look under Settings, then Privacy or Site data, in Chrome, Safari, Firefox or Edge. Blocking strictly necessary cookies may stop parts of a site working, but this site has no login or basket, so the effect here is limited to the banner reappearing.
Third-party tools
Analytics cookies are set by Google and Microsoft on our behalf and each company publishes its own privacy information. We configure these tools with the shortest practical retention and, for Google Analytics, with IP anonymisation. Embedded tools such as a booking calendar may set their own cookies when you use them; they are only loaded on the pages where they appear.
More information
How we handle the personal data these tools and our forms collect is explained in the privacy policy. Questions about cookies: info@pefwil.com.
